The project, which will be carried out over a period of 36 months with a total budget of TRY 3,000,000, constitutes an interdisciplinary study that brings together a wide range of fields, including psychology, medicine, sociology, the probation system, and the sociology of religion, within a legal framework.
Drawing attention to the 56% increase in juvenile delinquency observed over the past three years, the project aims to identify the underlying causes of repeat violent offending involving intentional homicide, intentional injury, and robbery among children in conflict with the law and young convicted offenders between the ages of 15 and 30. In light of the findings obtained, the project further seeks to develop a comprehensive, applicable, and sustainable rehabilitation model tailored to the specific conditions of Türkiye.
Based on a comparative analysis of the systems implemented in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Malaysia, the study aims to present an evidence-based model for public institutions involved in decision-making processes in the fields of criminal justice and social policy, as well as for policymakers, researchers, and civil society organizations.
The project is led by Asst. Prof. Saliha Merve Kaya. Prof. Mahmut Koca and Prof. Alev Erkilet serve as project advisors. The research team consists of Prof. Ali Ayten, Assoc.
