International Collaboration on AI-Supported Teacher Education under Erasmus+ KA220: The AI4PD Project
The Erasmus+ KA220 project titled “Artificial Intelligence for Professional Development (AI4PD),” in which Prof. Dr. Nihal Yapıcı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, serves as a member of the project team, has been awarded funding by the Malta National Agency.

The AI4PD project brings together four institutions from Malta, Luxembourg, and Türkiye under the coordination of the Institute for Education in Malta. The project consortium includes B&P Emerging Technologies Consultancy Lab Ltd, the University of Luxembourg, and Ibn Haldun University as partner institutions.

Designed to enhance teachers’ professional learning through an innovative AI-supported Virtual Classroom Reflection Platform, the project will be implemented between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2028 with a total budget of €250,000. The project will identify teachers’ professional learning needs, establish a shared pedagogical and ethical framework for AI-supported teacher education, and pilot the platform in three countries. By providing simulated teaching experiences that reflect authentic classroom settings, the platform aims to strengthen teachers’ reflective practice, digital competences, and AI literacy.

The AI4PD project is expected to support the integration of AI-supported professional learning practices into teacher education and continuing professional development programmes, while also strengthening our University’s international academic partnerships in the fields of education and artificial intelligence. We congratulate Prof. Dr. Nihal Yapıcı and the project team on this significant achievement and wish them continued success throughout the project.
