A workshop on “Secondary Trauma and Resilience” was held as part of the PASS Project.

Between 6 and 8 July 2025, a workshop organized within the scope of the Participatory Symposium Addressing Secondary Trauma After Earthquake (PASS) project was successfully held at Ibn Haldun University's Başakşehir Campus.

Coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal, a faculty member at our university, the project is supported under the Erasmus+ KA-154 program with the reference number 2024-3-TR01-KA154-YOU-000285471.

During the event, participants discussed the field experiences of individuals who worked professionally and voluntarily in the regions affected by the February 6 earthquakes, the challenges they encountered, and the solutions they proposed.

With contributions from a diverse group of participants — including teachers, healthcare professionals, social workers, and civil society volunteers — the phenomenon of secondary trauma emerging in the aftermath of disasters was addressed from a multidimensional perspective.

The workshop opened with speeches by Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal, Rector of Ibn Haldun University Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan, Mayor of Başakşehir Municipality Yasin Kartoğlu, and Istanbul Deputy Governor Hasan Gözen.

Participants shared observations, suggestions, and field-based outputs aimed at contributing to the development of effective post-disaster support mechanisms. The PASS Project seeks to highlight the psychosocial needs of individuals working in disaster-affected areas, generate solutions to enhance resilience, and raise public awareness.

The workshop was carried out under the coordination of the Ibn Haldun University Center for Psychotherapy Research (IPAM), in partnership with Hasan Kalyoncu University and Trauma and Resilience Lab.
